Participation in the webinar “Publication of articles in predatory publications: implications for researchers and universities”

On November 30, 2021, Iryna Svyd, Head of the MTS Department, took part in the webinar “Publication of Articles in Predatory Publications: Implications for Researchers and universities “.
The American Councils for International Education, within the framework of the Academic IQ Initiative, held a webinar entitled “Publishing Articles in Predatory Publications: Implications for Researchers and Universities.”

Predatory publications offer the publication of an article in exchange for the high cost of the publishing service. As a result, the quality of such publications is low, reputation
researchers and the institutions in which they work suffer, and the integrity of these legitimate publications can be questioned. The existence of predatory publications diminishes the role of the editorial process, the peer review process or other procedures that are an integral part of the submission of articles in
authoritative publications.
During the webinar, participants learned about some practices that can be used by managers in higher education to ensure that their approaches to testing scientific achievements are correct: employees, before hiring them, increase or issue research grants; to advise young researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers; ensure a high reputation of the institution – research, academic work, innovation, and teaching.
Webinar participants gained access to online resources related to scientific publications. These materials can be used as resources for further detailed analysis of the phenomenon of predatory publications and raising awareness among scholars, administrators and students.
