The Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 987 of August 23, 2004 established the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on August 23, to honor the centuries-old history of Ukrainian statehood, the state symbols of independent Ukraine, and for the purpose of raising citizens’ respect for state symbols.
